Peoria Firefighters Union - IAFF Local 50

Welcome to the home of the Peoria Firefighters Union IAFF Local 50.  The members of this proud organization have served the citizens of the mid-western city of Peoria, IL since February 7th, 1875 when the Peoria Fire Department was first organized as a fully paid fire department.

Since that first day, our goal is and will always be to protect the lives and property of the citizens of our great city.  Through the years, our services have grown from fire fighting to also include technical rescue, dive-swift water rescue, HAZMAT, fire safety inspections, public education and now ALS or Paramedic level EMS services.  Our career is ever changing and ever growing.

As an organization, we promote being active in the community we protect through charity fund raising, involvement in local-state government and educational programs that don't just end when we leave the fire house.  Local 50 has been a proud fundraiser for organizations such as The Boys and Girls Club, The Butch Gudat Fund, MDA, United Way, the Tim Ardis Foundation and many more.  Please, take a minutes to look around our site to find out a little more about us.  If you have any questions, comments or just want to tell us about an experience you had with our organization, just click on the "Contact Us" link above to let us know.  Thanks for visiting!

AFFI Helps Launch Massive Media Campaign

The AFFI has joined with other Illinois public employee unions in an unprecedented demonstration of solidarity as we work to protect our worker benefits. As the General Assembly enters the final weeks of its Spring 2011 session, this coalition of public employee unions will launch an aggressive media campaign in every one of our state’s media markets. AFFI members will be able to monitor the media campaign right here. We will provide our members with stories, commentary and links to news as it happens. This may well be the most closely knit effort by Illinois public employee unions to fight back at efforts to cut funding and reduce benefits for working Illinois families. Among the public employee unions we have joined in this effort are the Fraternal Order of Police, Police Benevolent and Protective Association, AFSCME, the Illinois Education Association and the Illinois Federation of Teachers. As the AFFI expressed in our own newspaper advertising campaign, public employees in Illinois are going to see to it that the promises made to us by our employers are kept. Illinois firefighters have always taken fierce pride in giving our word as our bond. We will continue to keep our communities safe from fire, hazards and provide medical emergency care. In return, all we ask is that our elected officials abide by their promise. A promise made to us when we began employment. A promise each and every one of our members have upheld throughout their careers. Please continue to keep us apprised of any related developments in your community.
